Congregational Church Stays Connected
During the suspension of in-person activities in light of the Covid-19 situation, the Congregational Church of Amherst, UCC has a variety of ways for members and others to connect with church programs. This is especially important during April as Holy Week and Easter are on the horizon.
The most up-to-date information about church activities can be found on the church’s website (ccamherst.org) or by calling the church office at 673-3231. Sunday services are broadcast on FacebookLive and recorded for later on-line viewing. Services are followed by a Virtual Fellowship Hour. Links for these and other events can be found on the website.
The church’s Facebook page is another source of information, including updates and video messages from the pastors. Pastors Maureen Frescott and Kate Kennedy are available to provide pastoral care during this time, and the church welcomes community members to connect with this loving, serving, open and affirming community of faith.
Lorraine Alice Hamilton
AMHERST – Lorraine Alice Hamilton of Amherst, New Hampshire, Beach Haven, New Jersey and Rancho Mirage, California died June 14, 2020 from pancreatic cancer at her home in California. She was 73 years old and a participant in the trial of a new cancer drug at NYU Langone in New York City since April 2019. She hoped that results from the trial would improve care for other patients who develop this cancer. She was with her family when she died and was

Donald Richard Haaker, 80, born June 2, 1940, son of Carl E Haaker and Jeanne LaRochelle Haaker of Fitchburg, MA, son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA.

AUGUST:
Children And Teen Summer Reading Programs End August 13
CHILDREN SUMMER READING: Children who have participated in this year’s ‘TAILS AND TALES’ summer reading program have until August 13 to complete their reading logs and bring them to the library to record their reading hours and collect their prizes. Don’t miss adding your reading time to our total! So far, Amherst children have read over 2,800 hours this summer!
TEEN SUMMER READING: Teens who registered for the summer reading program should claim their “Book Bucks” before August 13 and use them to purchase books from the Friends’ of the Library Book Sale Books, or enter our final raffle for fun gift cards. The last drawing for gift cards will be August 16. Our Teen’s Summer Reading Program 2021 page will be up through the end of August.

FUN STUFF TO DO:
‘BOOKWALKS’: Look for the latest ‘Bookwalk’ on the library’s front lawn. Find the first page and follow the directions for a fun-filled walking treat, plus you’ll get to enjoy a story while being outside. ‘
PICTURE HUNTS: Children are invited to pick up a CHECKLIST from the container on the wall in front of the library and head around back to search for the pictures. **We ask that you please be respectful of the Garden Club’s Hard work by remaining on the slate path or grass while searching for pictures. All pictures can be located while on the path. We hope that you enjoy the challenge of the hunt in the peace of our beautiful garden area! Available even when the library is closed.

A LOOK AHEAD TO SEPTEMBER:
PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES WILL BEGIN RIGHT AFTER LABOR DAY!
Family Storytime will be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:00am from September 7 & 8 to December 14 & 15. For preschoolers ages 3 to 5, younger/older siblings are welcome.
Caregivers must be present for any siblings younger than 3 yrs. No registration is required.
Little Listeners Lapsit Time is offered on Thursday and Friday mornings at 10:30am from September 9 & 10 to December 16 & 17. For children age newborn to 3 years. No registration is required.
(There will be no storytime on November 25 & 26)
S.T.E.A.M. Storytime will be offered Wednesday afternoons at 3:00pm from September 22 to Dec. 15. This is a story program especially for our primary-school kids. Come on over to the library on Wednesday afternoons for a healthy snack, some stories, and a project/craft that explores some of the principles of the world around us. The middle of the week is a great time to come and ‘check in’ at the library --- We love to see you! For ages 5-7, younger siblings are welcome to come along... No registration is required.

DROP-IN STEM TIME on FRIDAYS:
Build It! Friday, September 17 from 3:00 to 4:30.
iPads and apps are great, but sometimes, children just need to build something with their own hands!
Come on down to the Children’s Room, and let your child explore our collection of building materials.
We have plastic tubes, marble racers, blocks, magnatiles, mobilos, lots of Legos, and more! Let’s see what we can build!

Tech-Time! for Kids Friday, September 24 from 3:00-4:30
Come and explore our collection of S.T.E.M.-based activity kits: Snap-Circuits, Citiblocs, Ozmobots, and more… we make them available, so you can explore and enjoy an opportunity to make-your-own fun!
Ages 7 and up. No registration required.
Track Time! Friday, October 1 from 3:00-4:30
Come on down to the library to explore our assortment of tracks---and vehicles to travel on them. Use the materials available to build structures and obstacle courses to make the adventure even more fun---the only limit is your imagination!
