Congregational Church Stays Connected
During the suspension of in-person activities in light of the Covid-19 situation, the Congregational Church of Amherst, UCC has a variety of ways for members and others to connect with church programs. This is especially important during April as Holy Week and Easter are on the horizon.
The most up-to-date information about church activities can be found on the church’s website (ccamherst.org) or by calling the church office at 673-3231. Sunday services are broadcast on FacebookLive and recorded for later on-line viewing. Services are followed by a Virtual Fellowship Hour. Links for these and other events can be found on the website.
The church’s Facebook page is another source of information, including updates and video messages from the pastors. Pastors Maureen Frescott and Kate Kennedy are available to provide pastoral care during this time, and the church welcomes community members to connect with this loving, serving, open and affirming community of faith.
Lorraine Alice Hamilton
AMHERST – Lorraine Alice Hamilton of Amherst, New Hampshire, Beach Haven, New Jersey and Rancho Mirage, California died June 14, 2020 from pancreatic cancer at her home in California. She was 73 years old and a participant in the trial of a new cancer drug at NYU Langone in New York City since April 2019. She hoped that results from the trial would improve care for other patients who develop this cancer. She was with her family when she died and was

Donald Richard Haaker, 80, born June 2, 1940, son of Carl E Haaker and Jeanne LaRochelle Haaker of Fitchburg, MA, son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA.

Catherine F. Cray
AMHERST – Catherine F. Cray, 61, longtime resident of Amherst, NH, passed away on July 15, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving husband, three sons, and sister. Cathy was born on February 26, 1960, in Newton, MA, the daughter of the late Paul Leo Flynn, Sr. and Mary (Kenney) Fitzsimmons. Cathy was raised and educated in Newton, later receiving her Associate’s degree at Colby-Sawyer College, Bachelor’s degree at Merrimack College, and Master’s degree at Rivier University as a Licensed Clinical
Catherine E. Cray
Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). Cathy started her life’s work of helping adolescents at the Webster House in Manchester, NH had worked as a clinical therapist for Hollis-Brookline High School, Hollis, NH and more recently at St. Anselm College, Goffstown, NH.
Cathy was married to her best friend and loving husband, Jerry Cray, for 33 years and they made their home in Amherst, NH. Their greatest passion and joy in life was raising their three boys, Ryan, Colin, and Brendan. Cathy was an avid runner, health enthusiast, and a loved member of the community.
Sylvester F. Kostrzynski
AMHERST – Sylvester Francis Kostrzynski, Jr. died at his home on June 19th, 2021.
Sylvester, (Ski) was born on November 9th, 1942, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Sylvester Frances Kostrzynski, Sr. and Lottie (Zabinsky) Kostrzynski. Ski was raised and educated in Chicago and married Mary (Daley). They had 3 children, Michael (Mary), of Charlotte, NC, Helen of Portsmouth, NH and John of Hillsboro, NH. Ski had five grandchildren; Hannah, James, Chloe, Ashley and Annie.
Sylvester F. Kostrzyński
She was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Catherine Flynn; sister, Lisa Flynn, and her parents Paul Leo Flynn, Sr. and Mary (Kenney) Fitzsimmons.
Family members include her husband of 33 years, Gerald E. “Jerry” Cray of Amherst, NH; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Audrey Cray of Scituate, MA, Colin and Caroline Cray of Boston, MA and Brendan Cray of Amherst, NH; a granddaughter, Heidi Catherine Cray of Scituate, MA; two brothers, Paul Flynn Jr. of Boston, MA, Ned Flynn of Wenham, MA; a sister, Deirdre Flynn-Hewett of Boston, MA; five nieces, Haley Hewett, Kelsey Hewett, Courtney Stenstrom, Catherine Solinger, and Elizabeth Flynn; and a nephew, Andrew Flynn; step-mother, Susan Flynn.
Memorial visiting hours are on Wednesday, July 21st from 4:00-7:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Ski worked at Merrill Lynch for 30 years and spent his time there in operations, traveling the country, opening locations in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Later, Ski worked for The Nashua Telegraph Newspaper. Ski was a resident of Amherst, NH for 35 years and loved watching the news. He was proud to talk about politics, always enjoying a good debate. Ski loved music, especially Jazz and he was always up for a game of chess with his grandchildren.
