Congregational Church Stays Connected
During the suspension of in-person activities in light of the Covid-19 situation, the Congregational Church of Amherst, UCC has a variety of ways for members and others to connect with church programs. This is especially important during April as Holy Week and Easter are on the horizon.
The most up-to-date information about church activities can be found on the church’s website (ccamherst.org) or by calling the church office at 673-3231. Sunday services are broadcast on FacebookLive and recorded for later on-line viewing. Services are followed by a Virtual Fellowship Hour. Links for these and other events can be found on the website.
The church’s Facebook page is another source of information, including updates and video messages from the pastors. Pastors Maureen Frescott and Kate Kennedy are available to provide pastoral care during this time, and the church welcomes community members to connect with this loving, serving, open and affirming community of faith.

Achi Sullo (1922-2013), Untitled Abstract, oil on canvas, 57" x 45"
Achillo "Achi" Sullo (1922-2013) was born in Massachusetts, graduated from a Boston high school and spent four years in the Engineering Corps where he was a WWII veteran and a D-day survivor. As an enlisted artist, he painted camouflage patterns on U.S. Army vehicles for the war effort. The GI Bill enabled Sullo to attend School of the Museum School of Fine Arts, Boston. In 1958, Sullo held a one-man show at the deCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts. The Boston Globe wrote that Sullo “… is an excellent abstract painter…who works on canvas with oil and acrylic. Restricting himself to a fundamental vocabulary of flat, organic forms contained by heavy contours, Sullo’s paintings have both a vitality that derives from high-key colors and a subtlety of design.”
Richard Lytle (b. 1935), was born in Albany, New York, studied at the Cooper Union School of Art and the Yale University School of Art, where he received a BFA and MFA. In 1959 he was included in the Museum of Modern Art’s Sixteen Americans exhibition. He began teaching in 1960 at Yale University, which began a 40-year career as a teacher, professor and dean. He has had numerous one-man and group exhibitions, and he received the Augustus Saint-Gaudens Award in 1985 from the Cooper Union School of Art. He has become known worldwide for his non-objective, botanic, and abstract work.
