Congregational Church Stays Connected
During the suspension of in-person activities in light of the Covid-19 situation, the Congregational Church of Amherst, UCC has a variety of ways for members and others to connect with church programs. This is especially important during April as Holy Week and Easter are on the horizon.
The most up-to-date information about church activities can be found on the church’s website (ccamherst.org) or by calling the church office at 673-3231. Sunday services are broadcast on FacebookLive and recorded for later on-line viewing. Services are followed by a Virtual Fellowship Hour. Links for these and other events can be found on the website.
The church’s Facebook page is another source of information, including updates and video messages from the pastors. Pastors Maureen Frescott and Kate Kennedy are available to provide pastoral care during this time, and the church welcomes community members to connect with this loving, serving, open and affirming community of faith.
Lorraine Alice Hamilton
AMHERST – Lorraine Alice Hamilton of Amherst, New Hampshire, Beach Haven, New Jersey and Rancho Mirage, California died June 14, 2020 from pancreatic cancer at her home in California. She was 73 years old and a participant in the trial of a new cancer drug at NYU Langone in New York City since April 2019. She hoped that results from the trial would improve care for other patients who develop this cancer. She was with her family when she died and was

Saber Girls Shine at the Woods Trail Run!

Competing against over 50 teams from throughout New England, the Souhegan Girls had their best race of the season, capturing 4th place and leading a strong contingent of NH schools, at the 37th Woods Trail Run in Thetford Vt on Saturday, with 230 points! New Milford HS of CT took first place honors with a low score of 92 points, followed by Glastonbury Ct (125 points), and Burlington Vt (183). Other NH schools finishing in the top 15 teams included Keene (5th, 232), Dover (6th, 243), Concord (8th, 289), Pinkerton (10th, 323) Winnacunnet (12th, 381), Bishop Guertin (13th, 400), Nashua North (14th, 406), and Bedford (15th, 416).
Senior captain Chloe Trudel once again led the way for Souhegan, as she powered over the hilly course (which serves as Vermont's state championship course, and will be the host course for this Fall's New England Championships) and then displayed a torrid finishing kick to claim 5th place (first NH finisher) in the field of over 600 runners, with at time of 19:44! Saber sophomore Stephanie Svendsen had another outstanding race, finishing 13th in 20:22! What made this race special for Souhegan, however, was the continued improvement of their next 3 runners, Emma Jarnagin (56th, 21:50), Anna Brammer-DePuy (71st, 22:05), and Audrey Littlefield (85th, 22:20) which gave the Sabers the edge they needed in the highly competitive field! Sarah Bryson, and Emma Herrero also contributed to the Sabers' success.

Trudel and Svendsen Lead Saber Girls at 46th Manchester Invitational!

The Souhegan Girls Cross Country Team made the most of their first large invitational in 2 years, as they placed 4 girls in the top 30 to capture 4th place in a field of over 200 runners from 40 schools from throughout New England in the Varsity Small Schools Race at the 46th Annual Manchester Invitational with 96 points!
The speedy duo of Chloe Trudel and Stephanie Svendsen led the way for the Sabers as they captured 2nd and 5th place respectively in very fast times of 19:22 and 19:52! Emma Jarnigan had her best race of the year taking 19th (21:01), as did Anna Brammer-DePuy (26th, 21:21). Audrey Littlefield and Madeleine Glover also raced well, finishing 44th and 45th in 22:23 and 22:27. Sarah Bryson (76th, 23:40) closed out the scoring for Souhegan.
Harwood HS of Vermont won the race with 77 points, followed by Pentucket HS of Massachussetts with 87 points. Hopkinton edged out the Sabers for 3rd with 92 points. Other top 10 teams in the race from NH included Oyster River (5th), Kennett (6th), Coe-Brown (8th), and Bow (9th).
Noorda Leads Sabers at Woods Trail Run

A young Souhegan Boys Cross Country Team used strong pack running to capture 14th place out of the 55 teams competing Saturday at the Woods Trail Run in Thetford, Vt. U-32 High School of Montpeiler finished first with 87 points. The Sabers were 5th among the 16, mostly D1, schools from NH that competed.
Souhegan junior Jaren Noorda led the way for the Sabers finishing 53rd in the field of over 600 finishers with a time of 18:15 over the hilly course! The next 3 Sabers finished within a 12 second span led by sophomores Owen Stine (87th, 18:51) and Taloosh Anderson (106th, 19:02), and senior Josh Goddard (108th, 19:03). Nolan Dickinson (129th, 19:22) completed the scoring for Souhegan. The Sabers next 5 runners, all freshman and sophomores, also had excellent races, as they continue to improve. They included Finley Irvine, Dallen Noorda, Patrick Vore, Ben Gaudet, and Jared Kershaw.

Competing against 37 teams from throughout New England, the Souhegan Boys Cross Country Team captured 5th place in the Varsity Small School Race at the 46th Manchester Invitational on Saturday with 193 points! Jaren Noorda once again led the way for the Sabers, racing to 17th place in the field of over 200 runners, with a time of 17:44 over the hills of Derryfield Park. Souhegan then packed their next 5 runners within a 49 second span! Josh Goddard led the pack (33rd, 18:22), followed by Owen Stine (38th, 18:29), Nolan Dickinson (46th, 18:40), Dallen Noorda (59th, 19:04), and Finley Irvine (64th, 19:11). Taloosh Anderson (88th, 19:48) completed the scoring for the Sabers. Oyster River High School of NH won the race with a low score of 64 points.

Jaren Noorda led a young Sabers Boys Cross Country Team to a 4th place finish among the 5 teams competing on Saturday at Coe-Brown's Homecoming Meet. Host Coe-Brown captured 1st place with 34 points, followed by Oyster River with 45, Hanover 60, Souhegan 96, and Hopkinton 120. Noorda, a junior took it out strong, running with the lead pack for the first mile and a half, and then hung on to capture 11th place among the field of 98 finishers with a time of 17:52! Senior Nolan Dickinson (19th, 18:43) then led a pack of 3 Saber Sophomores across the line: Owen Stein (20th, 18:51), Taloosh Anderson (22nd, 19:12), and Finley Irvine (24th, 19:29). Two Souhegan Freshman (Dallen Noorda, and Ben Gaudet) rounded out the scoring for the Sabers.

Souhegan Boys Capture 2nd at Souhegan Relays

A balanced attack proved to be the difference as the Sabers edged out strong teams from Hanover and Londonderry with 29 points to take home the runner-up plaque on Saturday at the Souhegan Relays at Freestyle Farm! Competing against a field of teams from 11 schools, Bishop Guertin ran away with first place honors with their relay teams taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th for a low score of 9 points. The Sabers relay teams took 5th, 7th, and 17th, with their top 4 runners having relay splits within 12 seconds of each other, led by Jaren Noorda, Josh Goddard, Owen Stine, and Nolan Dickinson. But it was the Sabers depth that proved to be the difference against both Hanover and Londonderry, with Finley Irvine, Taloosh Anderson, and Dallen Noorda all running strong splits on their respective relay teams. It was a great start to the season for a young Souhegan team!
